Data Storage Security
As more and more businesses are turning to IoT solutions and cloud storage, concerns about data storage security are becoming more common. In fact, data security is among the top reasons that millions of users avoid storing their data online.
What you might not realize is that data stored on the cloud is much safer than that stored on your computer’s hard drive. Cloud data looks nothing like the data you input into your computer. Instead, it is stored in an encrypted form. Cloud data reads like a code that is virtually impossible to crack.
Much like your home computer, cloud data is stored on hard drives by a cloud service provider. The stored data can be accessed through the Internet only to users that have permission.
Clouds use special software to move data from one system to another. This helps ensure data is protected, even in the event of a power failure or system malfunction. Data is moved when a problem occurs, reducing the chance or length of downtime.
Although data stored on the cloud is much safer than data stored on your personal computer, it is still often pictured as a vulnerable asset, ready to be stolen by tech-savvy hackers. This is highly unlikely as it is next to impossible to crack encrypted data.
Public Clouds
Different companies have different needs when it comes to cloud storage. Public clouds are the most commonly used. These clouds can be accessed by anyone with permission. Although public clouds provide the same security as private clouds, they require very little maintenance.
Private Clouds
Large companies often have their own private clouds. Employees or customers can gain access to the private cloud by using a special key or password. Unlike public clouds, a private cloud enables the organization to use their own infrastructure. However, the private cloud is still scalable, has virtualization capabilities, and allows for the allocation of computing resources.
AWS GovCloud
AWS GovCloud provides the greatest level of protection. This cloud is designed to help government agencies and businesses that must meet strict regulations move data. While this cloud can protect sensitive workloads, organizations must be extremely careful when controlling who they give access to.
Data Resolution provides cloud services for companies and government agencies. Please contact us for more information about public clouds, private clouds, and AWS GovCloud.
